Strategic Planning
I partner with organizations of all sizes and in all sectors to create a shared understanding about organizational identity and strategic direction.
This includes co-creating strategic plans, developing theories of change, writing or revising mission, vision and values statements or doing scenario planning to imagine different paths an organization might take (in order to choose the path that feels right). It is of the highest importance to me that all voices are heard in the process, particularly voices that may have not been centered in the past.
Board Development
Organizations have lifecycles and so do boards of directors. I partner with boards to help them express and achieve the next stage of their evolution. This includes facilitating board retreats, creating board work plans, defining board committee structure and supporting board self-assessment.
My experience as a long-time board member and board president also informs this aspect of my practice.
Facilitation
By definition, the word “facilitate” means to make easier. The work of nonprofits is complex and organizations often arrive at forks in the road that fill people with apprehension.
I partner closely with organizations to create spaces for conversations that are authentic and safe. The result is that we can listen for consensus. Topics can include preparing for the retirement of a founding executive director, adding first paid staff and other major organizational challenges.
Storytelling
It is through stories that we connect. Every nonprofit has the challenge of expressing its purpose and impact through authentic storytelling.
I partner with nonprofits to develop effective communications. The focus of my work is writing cases for support and public speaking coaching.
